The Beauty of a Flood Wall?

One of my favorite things in the city. He took an ugly flood wall and turned it into the story of major moments in New Orleans’ three centuries! Jamar Duvol Pierre is the artist! When “he was a young graffiti writer marking buildings along the railroad tracks in the Bywater as a member of the notorious Top Mob group, he was busted for painting without permission and threatened with 90 days behind bars. Though he didn’t serve time, his brush with the law was an epiphany.” He not only started legitimately painting within the law but he became well known for it!

When this wall is finished it will be a continuous mile!

Jamar invited students from the Young Aspirations/Young Artists organization to help with the artwork.

Jamar has such an amazing personal story. He’s inspiring young artists now too. Now his story is part of our story! Our more than 300 year history is visible on Tchoupitoulas Street!
