Death Comes Calling:
Ghosts & Omens of the Garden District

Not every haunting begins with an apparition. Sometimes death announces itself through an owl outside a window, an unexplained whistle in the night, or a table that moves when the living ask the dead to answer.

Death Comes Calling: Ghosts & Omens of the Garden District explores the supernatural through documented tragedy, family accounts, séances, death omens, curses, folklore, and stories that have refused to disappear.

Along the way, discover a ghost legend older than the Garden District itself, the strange reputation surrounding the remains of a vanished mansion, a nineteenth-century attempt to communicate with the dead, and remarkable accounts of warnings believed to have foretold death.

You will discover how an ordinary find became a sensational supernatural tale through years of retelling, meet a woman whose memory survived through ghost lore, and follow the story of people traveling toward New Orleans who never arrived.

Throughout this afternoon walking tour, history and folklore remain distinct, allowing guests to explore not only whether a story is true, but why it survived. Death Comes Calling ultimately asks a larger question: What exactly makes something a haunting? Perhaps it does not always mean that the dead refused to leave. Sometimes it means that the living refused to forget.
