Sin & Salvation Tour

Begin inside a former French Quarter bordello and journey toward St. Louis Cathedral while exploring New Orleans’ complicated relationship with sin, salvation, vice, faith, and respectability. Meet May Baily, Norma Wallace, Josie Arlington, Lulu White, Bricktop, Marie Laveau, Henriette Delille, Père Antoine, and the religious women who cared for people society often rejected. Along the way, explore Storyville, prostitution, moral reform, race, Voodoo, Catholicism, Mardi Gras and Lent, and the transformation of a ballroom into a convent. More than a tour of saints and sinners, this experience asks deeper questions: Who gets to define sin? Who decides what salvation should look like? Can salvation be imposed, and does the person being “saved” get a voice? We begin inside a bordello asking who needs saving and end at a cathedral asking who ever had the right to decide.
