Ash & Oak:
Death, Water, Spirit & the Oldest New Orleans
As daylight fades, step beyond the familiar streets of New Orleans and into a landscape shaped by death, water, spirit, folklore, and survival.
Ash & Oak begins at the gates of one of the city's historic cemeteries before following an atmospheric route along Bayou St. John and into the shadows of City Park. Along the way, discover how burial traditions, ancient waterways, African spiritual beliefs, Voodoo, forgotten legends, Louisiana folklore, and generations of New Orleanians became intertwined with this remarkable landscape.
As darkness settles, the journey moves farther from the city you know and deeper into the stories beneath it, eventually reaching a grove of ancient live oaks that witnessed centuries of New Orleans history.
Part history, part folklore, and part spiritual journey, Ash & Oak asks one haunting question from beginning to end:
What survives us?
